What is A Mental Health Retreat?

A mental health retreat isn’t a vacation, and it isn’t a hospital either – but it does combine elements of the two. At The Trails, we incorporate leisure activities and excursions with a fully integrated mental health treatment plan, lead by a team licensed mental health professionals and physicians.

We believe the current mental healthcare industry is falling short, and that mental health often often has complex external factors such as habits, behaviors, relationship dynamics, unhealthy coping mechanisms, unresolved trauma, and more. With our holistic philosophy and evidence-based approach, our Ohio mental health retreat applies a residential treatment model that helps clients address all contributing factors to their mental health – all while in a tranquil environment.

With 30-day, 90-day, or longer options, our clients gain a new lease on life and leave our care with the tools to live a healthier and more rewarding lifestyle.

Treatment Plans & Services at Our Ohio Mental Health Retreat

Clients at our program receive fully custom and individualized treatment plans. No individual has the same needs. However, there are a range of services most clients receive or have access to while participating in our mental health retreat.

Psychiatry & Medication Management

Mental health medications are unique in the sense that many conditions can have a range of possibly effective medications. One medication that works for one person may be ineffective for another, even with the same mental health diagnosis. It can also take days, weeks, or even months to fully determine whether a medication is effective. In fact, studies have shown 10% or more of individuals with clinical depression switch medications at least once. Unfortunately many give up before they find a medication that works for them.

At The Trails, our 30-day and longer options give clients ample time to trial different medications in a safe and comfortable environment monitored by trained professionals.

Psychotherapy

Our clients are all assigned a primary therapist who works with them one-on-one to develop a clinical treatment plan. Therapies include a variety of evidence-based modalities and may include one or more of the following to suite their needs:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy
  • Dialectical behavioral therapy
  • Motivational interviewing
  • Stress inoculation training
  • Group therapy
  • Coping skills & education
  • Behavioral modification

Holistic Therapies

Holistic therapies have been repeatedly proven to be effective when combined with other mental health treatments. Holistic options at The Trails mental health retreat include:

  • Adventure therapy
  • Art therapy
  • Meditation
  • Yoga
  • Hiking and nature-informed therapy

Excursions & Experiences

Aside from treatment curriculums, we just like to have fun too! At The Trails, our clients gain an unforgettable experience that includes activities, games, leisure, off-residence excursions, and more.

Is The Trails Retreat Right For Me?

The Trails specializes in the treatment of a range of mental health conditions, but we are not a crisis hospital. If you or a loved one are experiencing a mental health emergency, defined as an immediate threat to themselves or others, you should instead dial 911. The Trails sometimes accepts clients who transfer from a crisis hospital, but all of our clients should first be stabilized before continuing their care at The Trails.

The Trails also may not be the best fit for individuals experiencing severe mental health conditions such as psychosis, schizophrenia, or severe bipolar disorder symptoms. However, we would be happy to offer referrals and additional local resources if you or a loved one are not a fit for The Trails.

How do know if a mental health retreat is right for you or a loved one? Here are some questions to consider:

  • Do you regularly or constantly feel “burnout”?
  • Do you feel overwhelmed by responsibilities, which is affecting relationships or work?
  • Do you have panic attacks?
  • Do you regularly feel sad, or “blue”?
  • Do you cry regularly, seemingly for no reason?
  • Have you been unable to find a medication that works?
  • Are you experiencing repeated episodes of crisis?
  • Does fear or anxiety cause you to cancel plans or engagements?
  • Do you obsess over people or events, which is affecting your quality of life?
  • In your adult child displaying “failure to launch”?
  • Do you constantly feel “on edge”?
  • Are you coping with unhealthy behaviors, such as alcohol use, promiscuity, drugs, or gambling?

This is by no means a comprehensive list, but if you or loved one answered yes to any of these question, The Trails retreat may be fit. We encourage you to call us for an assessment to see if The Trails mental health retreat is right for you: 866-959-9910

  • My stay at The Trails was truly life-changing. I arrived during one of the hardest periods of my life, after struggling with the same issue for over a decade, and … read more the therapy, daily sessions, and constant support helped me heal in ways I didn’t think were possible. The staff was incredibly friendly, the facility was clean and well kept, and I always felt safe and cared for. The property itself is beautiful—far more comforting and personal than most clinical-feeling recovery centers. The connections I formed with the staff and other patients were so genuine that leaving felt bittersweet, because it truly became a family during my stay. The tools and knowledge I gained there continue to guide me as I navigate my life today. I couldn’t recommend The Trails more and will be forever grateful for what they’ve done for me. I am sincerely and deeply thankful for how profoundly they helped me reclaim my life and sense of self.

  • Update: I spoke with Bryan in billing today at The Trails, and he explained the charges and how the insurance works, and I was mistaken fearing there was some sort … read more of fraud happening. My insurance was listed under a different name in their billing system, which was very confusing, so I am revising my review to thank Bryan for his help, and I'd also like to say that out of all the mental health facilities we researched when our son was having a crisis, the Trails was the most helpful and least predatory, so much so that we flew him from the Outer Banks of North Carolina to Ohio. Everyone seemed genuinely concerned for my son, who I am happy to say is doing much better. Just two days at The Trails made him aware that he was doing pretty well and inspired him to start making plans. He had so much gratitude for being home.
I'm glad to see here that others are getting help and having good experiences.

  • Incredible. Lifesaving and life-changing. Every single staff member, therapist, resident was so supportive, so kind. I never thought a place like this existed. That … read more geared toward mental health and addiction as well but lets face it, they go hand in hand. I can't thank everyone enough. I was in a very dark place and today, I feel amazing and I love myself. I am a better version of myself. They provide you with the tools for this journey called life that you absolutely need to take with you and utilize! If you are asking for help, need time for yourself, to learn about yourself and work through that trauma, those demons, well, this is the place to do so. Two to three a groups a day, 1 on 1 with your therapist at least twice a week. Yoga, sematic breathing, soundbaths. Even a polar plunge! Please, if you're in a dark place or just need to breathe. Truly breathe. Reach out for help at The Trails. I can't say enough wonderful things. 💚
