Clinical Approach at The Trails

Mental health conditions are complex with various risk factors for each individual. There is no such thing as a “routine” or one-size-fits-all approach to mental healthcare. At The Ohio Mental Health Center at The Trails, we untangle the complexities behind mental illness. Our individualized and person-centered approach addresses all components of your mental health to initiate true healing – not just acute symptom relief. Through psychiatric medication, targeted therapies, and vocational support, our fully integrated program empowers our clients to reach their full potential no matter where they are at in their journey.

Each person comes to us with a unique set of strengths and challenges. Our clinical approach builds on those strengths while helping our clients implement new habits, behaviors, and coping skills that will enable them to overcome their challenges.

We believe in using a variety of evidence-based solutions to foster healing. Some of these include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Life Skills-Based Therapy
  • Process Therapy
  • Group Therapy
  • Holistic Therapy
  • EMDR
  • Holistic Therapy
  • Motivational Interviewing

The Clinical Goal of The Ohio Mental Health Center at The Trails

From outpatient to inpatient crisis care, there is a wide spectrum of treatment options in Ohio for mental health conditions. That said, there are not many “in between” options. Outpatient care is often not enough for some people, while others may find themselves in a cycle of relapse resulting in crisis hospitalization. The Trails was designed to be this “in between” – offering a program that was a step above outpatient while not being a crisis hospital.

Our philosophy recognizes that many inpatient settings lack the level of support required to prevent relapse or recurrence of mental health symptoms. While psychiatric hospitals provide a critical emergency service to those in crisis, we believe healing requires behavioral interventions, new habits, environmental change, support groups, and accountability. Our program was designed to offer a more personal level of care than what might be found in a psychiatric hospital or crisis center.

We know recovery is possible, even for people with severe mental illness. Our goal is to give each client the tools needed to live a rewarding and independent lifestyle.

In a small residential homelike environment, you or a loved one uncovers the social and environmental factors leading to relapse while receiving world-class psychiatric care. Our approach emphasizes comfort and personal care through small client-to-staff ratios and low population. We find this type of environment is most conducive to healing.

Lastly, our unique approach emphasizes holistic treatment methods. Many holistic modalities have been proven to improve mental health and wellbeing. At The Trails, we utilize meditation, adventure therapy, art therapy, nutrition, personal fitness, yoga, and more.

The Ohio Mental Health Center at The Trails has specialized programs for a variety of mental health conditions. Learn more below about how we treat specific conditions.
