What is A Mental Health Retreat?
A mental health retreat isn’t a vacation, and it isn’t a hospital either – but it does combine elements of the two. At The Trails, we incorporate leisure activities and excursions with a fully integrated mental health treatment plan, lead by a team licensed mental health professionals and physicians.
We believe the current mental healthcare industry is falling short, and that mental health often often has complex external factors such as habits, behaviors, relationship dynamics, unhealthy coping mechanisms, unresolved trauma, and more. With our holistic philosophy and evidence-based approach, our Ohio mental health retreat applies a residential treatment model that helps clients address all contributing factors to their mental health – all while in a tranquil environment.
With 30-day, 90-day, or longer options, our clients gain a new lease on life and leave our care with the tools to live a healthier and more rewarding lifestyle.
Treatment Plans & Services at Our Ohio Mental Health Retreat
Clients at our program receive fully custom and individualized treatment plans. No individual has the same needs. However, there are a range of services most clients receive or have access to while participating in our mental health retreat.
Psychiatry & Medication Management
Mental health medications are unique in the sense that many conditions can have a range of possibly effective medications. One medication that works for one person may be ineffective for another, even with the same mental health diagnosis. It can also take days, weeks, or even months to fully determine whether a medication is effective. In fact, studies have shown 10% or more of individuals with clinical depression switch medications at least once. Unfortunately many give up before they find a medication that works for them.
At The Trails, our 30-day and longer options give clients ample time to trial different medications in a safe and comfortable environment monitored by trained professionals.

Is The Trails Retreat Right For Me?
The Trails specializes in the treatment of a range of mental health conditions, but we are not a crisis hospital. If you or a loved one are experiencing a mental health emergency, defined as an immediate threat to themselves or others, you should instead dial 911. The Trails sometimes accepts clients who transfer from a crisis hospital, but all of our clients should first be stabilized before continuing their care at The Trails.
The Trails also may not be the best fit for individuals experiencing severe mental health conditions such as psychosis, schizophrenia, or severe bipolar disorder symptoms. However, we would be happy to offer referrals and additional local resources if you or a loved one are not a fit for The Trails.
How do know if a mental health retreat is right for you or a loved one? Here are some questions to consider:
- Do you regularly or constantly feel “burnout”?
- Do you feel overwhelmed by responsibilities, which is affecting relationships or work?
- Do you have panic attacks?
- Do you regularly feel sad, or “blue”?
- Do you cry regularly, seemingly for no reason?
- Have you been unable to find a medication that works?
- Are you experiencing repeated episodes of crisis?
- Does fear or anxiety cause you to cancel plans or engagements?
- Do you obsess over people or events, which is affecting your quality of life?
- In your adult child displaying “failure to launch”?
- Do you constantly feel “on edge”?
- Are you coping with unhealthy behaviors, such as alcohol use, promiscuity, drugs, or gambling?
This is by no means a comprehensive list, but if you or loved one answered yes to any of these question, The Trails retreat may be fit. We encourage you to call us for an assessment to see if The Trails mental health retreat is right for you: 866-959-9910
